The Rolla High School volleyball team opened its season by sweeping past Columbia Hickman 25-21, 25-16.
It was a big win for the Lady Bulldogs, who have struggled with the Hickman Lady Kewpies - a regular district opponent - in the past.
"We really didn't play very well the first game; we played really tight," said Lady Bulldog head coach Julie Carver. "In the second game we played much better.
"(Junior) Jessie (Kaczmarek) had a good serving run where she served really tough and we got about an eight-point run and really controlled that game. And we passed pretty good. It was nice to start the season with a win."
Rolla's junior varsity team also won in straight games, 25-11, 25-15. "It was a great match and the girls really played well," said Rolla jayvee coach Sydney Winslow. "Serving was a strength for our team."
Also defeating Hickman in straight games was the Lady Bulldog freshman squad, 25-13, 25-12.
Rolla is scheduled to open the home portion of its season on Tuesday, hosting St. James at the RHS gym, starting at 5:30 p.m.
