  • The United Way of South Central Missouri will host the second annual Day of Caring, a one-day event scheduled to take place Friday, Sept. 13, that brings together local businesses and volunteers to accomplish projects on behalf of area nonprofit agencies.
Committee co-chairs and Rolla residents Myra Miller, Tonya Bramel and Mark Long, along with United Way of South Central Missouri executive secretary Carolyn Peplow, are working to make this year’s event better than last year’s.
The Day of Caring event is a day of service for local nonprofits, allowing them to accomplish tasks utilizing volunteers that they might not otherwise be able to accomplish.
“Working together, our community can accomplish a great deal in one day,” said Miller.
This year’s Day of Caring will also serve as the kickoff for the 2013 United Way campaign.
To begin the day, a campaign kick-off rally and volunteer breakfast will take place at the Drury University – Rolla campus, starting at 8 a.m.
Day of Caring projects will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at noon.
Businesses can become involved in the Day of Caring by granting a paid half day off to employees so that they can volunteer for various projects. Individuals are also encouraged to volunteer.
Area non-profit agencies benefit from this volunteer labor to accomplish projects that might otherwise be neglected due to lacking resources.
Nonprofit agencies and businesses and individuals will be matched prior to the kickoff.
For more information or to become involved, contact Peplow at uwscm@rollachamber.org or 573-368-3577.
