The Rolla Police Department is investigating a report of 52-year-old man who suffered a neck laceration at a Rolla motel early Tuesday morning.
According to a news release from the RPD, police officers and Phelps County Ambulance District personnel were called to the the Budget Deluxe Motel, 1908 North Highway 63 for the reported assault.
The victim called 911 around 6:10 a.m. When EMS personnel arrived at the scene, they found the victim had suffered a laceration to his neck.
The victim, whose name was no released, was transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center for medical attention. Capt. Jason Smith, of the RPD, told the Daily News he underwent surgery.
During a preliminary interview with the victim, he stated he was assaulted by an unknown subject.
The RPD's division of criminal investigations is investigating this incident.
"We have very few leads," Smith said, noting that the victim's interview could be plausible or not.

Missouri University of Science and Technology sent a message about the incident on its emergency alert system.
The message stated, "an individual was assaulted with a knife at the Budget Deluxe Motel, which is located approximately two blocks north of campus at Walnut and 19th St. There is no description of the suspect and the incident did not involve student, faculty or staff. Missouri S&T is open and classes will be held. The campus community is urged to be attentive of strangers and report any suspicious activity to the police by calling 911."
