  • City and county police in St. Louis reported more than 50 arrests over Labor Day weekend connected to the "Ride of the Century" motorcycle rally.
    City police on Tuesday reported making 47 arrests and towing nearly 60 bikes starting last Thursday through Labor Day. The violations ranged from careless and reckless driving to operating stolen motor vehicles. St. Louis County arrested six riders for registration violations and towed eight motorcycles.
    The Missouri Highway Patrol reported issuing 61 citations connected to the event, from speeding violations to misdemeanor drug warrants.
    This 11th annual event was sponsored by a St. Louis stunt motorcycle team known as Streetfighterz. Police from throughout the region pledged a crackdown for any violations this year issuing nearly 100 tickets and arresting 19 motorcyclists last year.
    Authorities also reported two motorcyclist deaths involving century ride participants.
    Early Saturday, motorcyclist Justin Rohe, 25, of St. Charles, ran a red light in St. Charles County and was struck by another vehicle. Later that same day, motorcyclist Michael Evans, 32, of St. Louis, died after clipping an unmarked police car, going off the side of the road and striking a pole, St. Louis police said.
