The Newburg High School baseball team opened its fall schedule by stunning perennial Frisco League power Dixon 10-4 Thursday.
The Dixon Bulldogs took the early lead, plating single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings.
However, the Newburg Wolves erupted for six runs in the top of the fourth inning and led the rest of the way.
Dixon cut its deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth and each team scored a run in the fifth. Newburg then pulled away with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Each team had eight hits and committed four errors.
Senior right-hander Tristan Hoffman went the distance on the mound for the Wolves, scattering eight hits and five walks over seven innings while fanning seven.
Joey Brinkley was 2-for-2 with a double, run scored and stolen base for the Wolves while Jamie Stevenson was 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases; Hoffman had an RBI double; Troy Constable had a two-run double; Dusten Reagan and Caleb Wofford each had a hit; Hunter Rigsby an RBI, and Tristan Kattich scored a run.
The Wolves were scheduled to host Steelville on Friday (Aug. 30).
