Lady Wolves use big third inning to stop Belle.
The Newburg High School softball team ran its record to 2-0 by whipping Belle 9-1 in non-conference action on Thursday.
The Lady Wolves exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning and was in control the rest of the way. Newburg added solo runs in the fourth and fifth frames.
The Belle Lady Tigers scored their lone run in the fifth inning.
Freshman Audrey Suschanke went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored for the Lady Wolves while senior Shelby Friend was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored and sophomore Amber Dean had a two-out, two-run single to cap the big third inning.
Shelby Friend went the distance in the pitching circle, allowing two hits and striking out 15.
Newburg is seeded third for next week's Frisco League Tournament, which is to be held Sept. 3-7 in Crocker.
