  • Sidelines: Murray State AD is from Rolla

  • 1985 RHS graduate Allen Ward is top man in Racers' Athletic Department.

  • Allen Ward will likely be back in his home state on Saturday, just a few miles from his hometown of Rolla.
    Ward is the Director of Athletics for Murray State, which is the season-opening opponent for the Mizzou Tigers. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Columbia.
    Ward, 46, is a 1985 Rolla High School graduate and was a standout student-athlete for the Bulldogs. He became Murray State Racer Athletics Director in 2005.
    Prior to going to Murray State Ward was at the University of North Texas, where he served in numerous capacities over 14 years, including the last seven as Senior Associate Athletics Director.
    A 1989 graduate of William Jewell College, Ward earned his Master's degree from Wichita State. He and his wife, Sharon, have two children: Nathan and Nicole.

    Phenom List
    Aarika Froehlich, a 6-1 junior middle hitter for the Rolla High School volleyball team, is on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Under Armour High School All-America Phenom List.
    Froehlich has earned All-Ozark Conference, all-district and all-region honors for the Lady Bulldog volleyball squad.
    Being selected to the Phenom List is a step closer to eventually making the Under Armour Watch List.
    The Under Armour Watch List identifies elite high school senior volleyball players who possess the potential to be considered for the Under Armour High School All-America Awards Program. The Watch List is comprised of high school senior volleyball players from all across the country who have received some type of honor identifying them as a top player in their region/country.
    In order to be eligible for inclusion on the Under Armour Watch List, the student-athlete must be a senior and her high school head coach must be an active AVCA member in good standing with the association.
    The AVCA Phenom List is similar to the Under Armour Watch List, but the athletes eligible for inclusion are high school freshman, sophomores and juniors. The athletes on the AVCA Phenom List have received some type of honor (all-state team, USAV Training Teams, AVCA/Max Preps Players of the Week, etc.), identifying them as a top player in their region/country. In order to be eligible for inclusion on the AVCA Phenom List, the student-athlete must be a high school freshman, sophomore or junior and her high school head coach must be an active AVCA member in good standing with the association.
