  • Rolla man seriously hurt in boating accident

  • A Rolla man had to be flown to a hospital in Columbia after the boat he was ejected from a boat on the Gasconade River in Pulaski County Saturday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's water division.

  • A Rolla man had to be flown to a hospital in Columbia after the boat he was ejected from a boat on the Gasconade River in Pulaski County Saturday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's water division.
    David W. Gabel, 67, of Rolla, suffered serious injuries in the crash that took place at the Veterans Bridge on Highway 17 north of Waynesville along the river. Gabel was flown to University Hospital in Columbia.
    Another person in the boat, Belinda A. Nash, 59, of Cook Station, suffered moderate injuries after she also was ejected from the 2013 Alweld V-bottom boat. Nash was taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
    Neither was wearing life jackets, the patrol report said.
    The water patrol stated that the boat was traveling east when Gabel lost control and the boat struck the south bank of the river.
    The crash occurred around 2:45 p.m.  There was moderate damage to the boat.
