Grand openings for two new playgrounds were held Aug. 15: Willow Street Park and Kiwanis Park.
Willow Street Park is located at 404 Willow St. The new playground cost about $24,300. Willow Street Park, which is located behind Willow Street Church, was built in 2002. The Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department plans other upgrades after the playground installation, including a basketball hoop and benches.
Components of the Willow Street playground include: typhoon slide, groove slide, double slide, loop climber, tensile ladder, loop climber, curved climber, spider climber and suspension bridge, along with a steering wheel and letter speller.
Kiwanis Park is located at 150 Broadway. The Kiwanis Park playground cost about $41,000. Originally called Electric Park, it was changed to Kiwanis Park when the Kiwanis Club donated picnic shelters and playground equipment.
Components of the Kiwanis Park playground include: chunky trekker, alpha climber, bongo perch, boulder ridge rock wall, crawl through deck, bump and glide slide, typhoon slide, arch bridge, climbing sphere and velocity climbing net.
