The American Red Cross is transitioning the Multi-Agency Relief Center (MARC), located in Westside Baptist Church in Waynesville, to close at 6 p.m. Friday.
The MARC, which has information and assistance for anyone affected by the recent flooding, will open at 10 a.m. Friday. Representatives from several county, local, state and non-profit agencies will be at the center.
“The first day was very busy,” said Phillip Iman, the American Red Cross deputy director for the relief operation. “It slowed down Wednesday. I hope that’s because we were able to reach out to families affected by this disaster and those that needed help came in early.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, 222 representatives of families from flooded areas registered at the MARC, which began operations Tuesday morning.
Red Cross volunteers and staff will continue to offer services after the MARC closes.
The Red Cross team will work families to determine additional resources to meet ongoing needs as they get back on their feet.
Caseworkers are traveling to other areas affected by flooding to determine whether or not there are families that may not have been able to get to the MARC, but are still in need of recovery assistance.
