Earthmoving work will start soon off Vichy Road in preparation for construction of a new skilled care nursing and rehabilitation center in Rolla.
The City of Rolla recently issued a building permit for the project, according to Rolla Community Development Director John Petersen.
The center, which will be called Silverstone Place located at 2735 Eagleson Drive, will be between 63,000 and 74,000 square feet in size, Petersen said. "It's going to be a fairly large facility," he said.
He estimated the total construction value of the project at $13 million.
Petersen was unsure of the timeline for construction.
"They're starting to do a lot of dirt work and moving around things, but it certainly won't be done this year," he said.
The land purchased for the facility sits on 18.6 acres, Petersen said, but that also includes nearby single-family residences.
Petersen noted that the facility was initially considered to be built on property along Blues Lake Parkway, which was annexed into the city in 2011.
However, the site on Eagleson Drive was later chosen.
