A Cuba man has been charged with drug trafficking after more than 9 pounds of cocaine were found in a vehicle he was driving Saturday.
Jonathan A. Zimmerman, 33, of Cuba, was arrested for drug trafficking in the first degree during a traffic stop on eastbound Interstate 44.
According to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, sheriff’s deputies stopped a silver Hyundai passenger car that Zimmerman was driving on I-44 in Phelps County for several traffic violations around 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and approximately 9.5 pounds, or 4 kilograms, of cocaine was located in a compartment hidden in the rear portion of the vehicle.
Zimmerman was incarcerated in the Phelps County Jail, pending bond, which was set at $250,000.
