  • A text message that Phelps County Fair Board Vice President Renae Silvio received from a visitor to this year's fair summed it up best.
"On a scale of one to 10," wrote a weekend fair-goer, "I would give this year's Phelps County Fair a nine."
According to Silvio, Wednesday and Thursday were unusually busy. Friday evening's rain did not dampen spirits and she said that Saturday was one the best days the fair has seen in history.
Other than a few minor issues, all went well, she noted.
"The bungee jump seemed to be a popular event," she noted. "Also we saw the participation in the ATV Rodeo double or triple over the last couple of years which was good to see."
One fair attendee told her that she was pleased with the fact that a good crowd came out for local musical act Special 20.
This year's fair had a new weather emergency system in place. The system allowed fair officials to track weather fronts moving from the area and therefore let vendors and the public know what to do.
For next year, the fair board is looking at adding some type of public address system to keep all those at the fairgrounds alert of any emergency situations.
"A lot of us from the fair organizers were out cleaning up Sunday at the fairgrounds," said Silvio, "and we all noted that this year's fair was a great one."
