After closing in late 2011, Denny’s is coming back in Rolla — this time in a new location.
An investment group based out of California that owns several Denny’s franchises closed Wednesday on the property on Martin Springs Drive where Shoney’s was located, according to Mike Woessner, president and CEO of Investment Realty, Inc.
Woessner said he was told that Anima Investments Inc., which closed on the site, also has a franchise in Poplar Bluff.
The new Denny’s restaurant will be located at 1419 Martin Springs Drive. Shoney’s closed its doors Jan. 25, 2013.
Woessner said the investment group plans to spend approximately $350,000 to renovate the existing 5,400-square-foot building.
According to Woessner, the investment group plans to use local contractors for the renovation.
Woessner’s best guess is that renovation work could begin in September, with the possibility of the new Denny’s opening sometime around the beginning of 2014.
A Denny’s restaurant was formerly located at 1811 Highway 63 North next to Donut King. That restaurant closed in November 2011 and the owner of the property tore down the building in December 2011.
According to environmental health services records on the Phelps-Maries County Health Department website, during a routine inspection conducted Aug. 24, 2011, a closing order was issued pursuant to Chapter 34 of the City of Rolla Food Ordinance and the Missouri Department of Health's Food Code.
The online inspection report at that time listed 19 critical violations and 47 non-critical violations.
That site on Highway 63 North is now where a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant will be built.
There are no other Denny’s restaurants in Phelps County. The nearest Denny’s is located in Sullivan.
