  • 'The Veep' to be final play of season

  • NEWBURG — “The Veep,” directed by Carrolyn Bolin, manager of Lyric Live Theater in Newburg, will be the final play of the 2013 season at the theater.

  • NEWBURG — "The Veep," directed by Carrolyn Bolin, manager of Lyric Live Theater in Newburg, will be the final play of the 2013 season at the theater.
    The play was originally written in the late 1980s by playwright Jay D. Turley and is now a popular series show on HBO.
    "The Veep" will be shown Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2-3, and Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9-10, at the theater, located at 117 First St., Newburg. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 7:30 p.m.
    Admission is free, but donations are accepted with the funds to be used for needed repairs to the theater building.
    While "The Veep" will be the last play of the summer, there are other upcoming events at the theater, including David Mays in a tribute to Charlie Pride scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16.
    Mays currently plays at The Waltzing Waters in Branson and has been performing since he was 4 years old.
    There will be door prizes and all attendees will receive a free CD at the end of his show.
    Lyric Live Theater also is looking for volunteer talent for a benefit variety show to be held Aug. 23, 24 and 30. People of all ages interested in music, vocal or instrumental, dance, magic or comedy are invited to audition for this family-oriented show.
    Auditions for this show will be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and 8. Rehearsals will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 13, 15, 20 and 22.
    Admission to the benefit variety show is free, but donations are accepted with the funds to be used for needed repairs to the theater building.
    The last show of the 2013 season will be a matinee with Bob Milne, a world-renowned pianist, set for 3 p.m. Sept. 1. Milne was scheduled to perform in June, but his show had to be canceled then. He has since rescheduled.
    Admission for this show is $12.
