  • St. James - Dollar General in St. James could be getting a new store in the near future. According to Mike Woessner of Investment Realty, a contract for the Hicks property on North Jefferson Street is under way.
"It's still under contract," Woessner said. "We're waiting for the all the inspections to be completed. We've been told within 30 days."
Woessner would not name the prospective buyer, but he said "his understanding" was that the acquisition was to build a new Dollar General facility.
The 4.4-acre property is located between the current Dollar General and Ray's Tire.
Last Friday, Dollar General employees could not confirm any specific details of land acquisition, but a few said that there has been talk about "getting a new store" for some time.
The manager on duty declined to comment.
St. James City Administrator Jeff Davis has heard rumors of a new business being built on the Hicks property, but at this point, "they are just rumors," he said.
"We haven't had any new business license applications, but that's usually the last thing they do," Davis said. "They're usually halfway up and running before they apply, because we can usually turn one around within a couple of days."
