St. James - The 2013 St. James Community Grape Jam Bluegrass and Craft Festival returns Aug. 16-17.
The event, which begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, will be held on East Washington Street, just east of Highway 68. The event also includes craft and food vendors, along with open jam sessions for musicians to join in.
On Friday night, the Clifty Creek Band will play at 6 p.m., followed by the Summit Grass at 7:15 p.m.
The fun resumes at noon on Saturday, as the festival continues throughout the day. Rural Roots takes the stage at 6 p.m., followed by the Harpers at 7:15 p.m.
At 1 p.m. on Saturday, a three-division fiddle contest for all ages will be the featured event, with $1,400 in cash prizes available to the winners.
The divisions are junior (ages 16 and under), open (ages 17-54), and senior (ages 55 and over).
Cash prizes for the first-place winners are $150, $500 and $150 in each division respectively. Second-place winners will receive $100, $200 and $100 respectively; and third-place winners will receive $50, $100 and $50 respectively.
Registration for the contest begins at noon on Saturday. There is no entry fee required, and the limit is 30 contestants. A full list of contest rules is available at the St. James Chamber of Commerce.
