A special meeting of the Newburg School Board on Thursday night did not yield any significant changes to the upcoming 2013-14 school year budget.
The board thought that some budget amendments might have to be decided at the meeting because of some district personnel issues but no new amendments were voted on.
The approved budget has total revenue of $4,337,031 and total expenditures of $4,389,280.74.
What was discussed at the meeting is the arrival of a dozen new foster care children who are dealing with behavioral disorders to the district.
A new foster care home is coming into the Arlington area. The board discussed how to integrate these new students in the school's curriculum and programs and associated costs.
Also on the agenda was a discussion on the need for a speech language pathologist. Superintendent of Schools John Westerman noted that a speech pathologist is hard to find.
The board moved to continue to research their possibilities in this department.
And finally the 2013-2014 school calendar was approved. The first day of classes commence Aug. 22 and end May 9, 2014.
