Eight Rolla City Council meetings have been held since new members were sworn in, and all 12 members have attended only two of those.

That's right; at least one of the 12 people elected to take care of local taxpayers' business has been absent at six meetings of the current council year.

Four council members were absent from two of the meetings, and three members were absent from one meeting.

Only five have managed to make all eight meetings.

Council members are each paid $1,800 per year, which is paid out to them every two weeks, according to City Clerk Carol Daniels.

Council members get their checks every two weeks whether they attend meetings or not.

A quick check of the council minutes shows that all 12 council members attended April 15, the first meeting after the municipal election at which Ward 1 Councilwoman Rhonda Sue Myers, Ward 2 Councilman Greg Sawyer, Ward 3 Councilwoman Sue Eudaly, Ward 4 Councilman Lou Magdits, Ward 5 Councilman Brian Woolley and Ward 6 Councilwoman Fran Mazanec were sworn in.

Also present were Ward 1 Councilman Monty Jordan, Ward 2 Councilman Steven Leonard, Ward 3 Councilman Kelly Long, Ward 4 Councilman Don Morris, Ward 5 Councilman Jim Williams and Ward 6 Councilman Tony Bahr.

All 12 of them were present on May 6, too, and that's the last time all dozen of Rolla's local lawmakers were present together for an official meeting.

Jordan missed May 13.

Morris and Mazanec missed May 20.

Sawyer missed June 3, as did vacationing Mayor Bill Jenks III.

June 17 saw empty chairs for Myers, Long and Mazanec.

Long and Morris missed July 1.

Myers and Eudaly missed July 15.

That tallies up to two absences each for Myers, Long, Morris and Mazanec, one absence each for Jordan, Sawyer and Eudaly.

Working on perfect attendance pins are Leonard, Magdits, Williams, Woolley and Bahr.
