Former Washburn University standout takes S&T post.

Missouri S&T has announced that Kelci Wigger will become the new assistant volleyball coach for the S&T program.

Wigger is taking over for Signe Mueller, who had been the assistant for the past year. Mueller stepped down to take the assistant volleyball coaching position at Missouri Western State University. Wigger played four years at Washburn University as a middle hitter from 2006-10 helping the team win a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) title and advanced to the NCAA tournament all four seasons.

"It is great to have Kelci join our Miner family," said Mark Mullin, S&T's director of athletics. "She brings excellent experience and enthusiasm to our volleyball program. I am confident she will be a great asset to Miner volleyball and our department as a whole. We are excited for her to get started as I know she is."

"We are extremely excited and honored to have such an outstanding young woman and up and coming coach like Kelci join our program for this fall," head coach Jason Holt said. "Her high level Division II playing experience along with her strong coaching experience at both the high school and club levels will be a great asset to our program as we push to take the Miners to the level of her alma mater program Washburn. I can't wait to get her caught up and ready to go this fall."

"I am incredibly thrilled to be in Rolla and to be a part of this Miner Volleyball family," Wigger said. "Coach Holt has welcomed me with open arms ever since my interview and made me feel right at home. I am very excited for the season to start, to meet the entire team, and to witness a fantastic volleyball season."

Wigger earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise physiology this past spring from Washburn. During her career with the Ichabods she appeared in 135 matches with 26 starts recording 251 kills and 160 total blocks. Wigger helped Washburn to an overall record of 133-18 during her four year playing career, which included a third place finish at the NCAA Tournament in 2007. Wigger coached the Topeka Elite volleyball club for six seasons (2007-12) and also led the Kansas Networks volleyball club since this past November.

She served as the assistant volleyball coach at Shawnee Heights High School in Tecumseh, Kan., the past two seasons. Wigger led the junior varsity program, organized practices and coordinated the team's travel arrangements.

The Miners are coming off a 20-13 season in which they won their second straight GLVC West Division title. S&T opens its 2013 season on Friday, September 6, at West Florida beginning at 2 p.m. in the West Florida Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.
