A 2-year-old girl died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle driven by her mother who was backing out of a parking space on Forum Drive in Rolla.
The Rolla Police Department identified the girl as Alexie June Toole, of Rolla.
According to the RPD, an investigation revealed that the girl's mother, Megan N. Toole, 24, of Rolla, was backing a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica from a private parking space at the Oak Tree apartment complex in the 2000 block of Forum Drive when she apparently failed to see her daughter behind the van.
The vehicle then struck the child which resulted in her fatal injuries, an RPD news release stated.
The girl was transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.
The accident was reported at 7:22 a.m. July 21. Rolla police, fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene.
This incident is still under investigation by the RPD’s division of criminal investigations, traffic accident investigation unit and the Phelps County coroner’s office.
Capt. Jason Smith, of the RPD, said Monday afternoon that he doesn’t anticipate charges being filed in this case at this time.
Null and Son Funeral Home is handling arrangements. An obituary for the girl lists a funeral service scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, with a visitation Tuesday, July 23, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The girl’s father is Joshua Toole and she had one brother, Alexander, and one sister, Alora, among other relatives.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the family for an educational fund for Alexie’s brother and sister.
