Former RHS standout to play golf in college.

Columbia College golf coach John Utley has announced the signing of former Rolla High School standout Michael Steelman to a letter of intent to join the Columbia program in the fall of 2013.

Columbia College is an NAIA program and a member of the American Midwest Conference (AMC). The Cougars were third in last spring's AMC Championships.

Steelman was a four-time all-district and two-time All-Ozark Conference selection during his career at Rolla High School.

Steelman was also qualified for the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament on two occasions – including in 2013 – and was an honorable mention all-conference pick at quarterback for the Rolla football team.

Last month Steelman advanced to match play competition in the Missouri Amateur.
In addition, he was the school's class valedictorian and a recipient of the Good Citizen award and George Washington Carver award.

"I am thrilled Michael made the decision to come to Columbia College," said Utley. "He has been a leader in and out of the classroom and I expect he will do the same here. Now focusing on just one sport, the sky is the limit for his golf potential."
