  • A Rolla man has been charged with burglary after admitting to stealing copper wiring and plumbing from a residence on Highway O earlier this year.
Jereme J. Roark was arrested Saturday, July 13, for burglary in the second degree, a class C felony, and property damage in the first degree, a class D felony.
The burglary was initially reported April 13, 2013, when Phelps County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 15000 block of Highway O.
During the investigation, it was discovered that most of the copper wiring and plumbing had been stolen from inside the residence, according to a press release from the sheriff’s department.
While following up on other burglaries and thefts in the Phelps County area, deputies developed suspect information regarding the stolen wire and pipe.
Roark was contacted and interviewed, and as a result of the interview, Roark admitted to the burglary.  Warrants were later applied for and received.
Roark has posted his $50,000 bond and been released from custody.
Phelps County Sheriff Rick Lisenbe said because of the high price of copper, “we have seen a substantial increase in these types of thefts.”
