  • Ron Henderson, who served as the assistant director of facilities at Hutchinson Community College for the last two years, has been named as the new assistant director of athletics at Missouri S&T.
Henderson will be taking over for Sarah Moore, who is retiring from that position and from the post of senior woman administrator at the university.
"I am excited about becoming a member of the S&T staff," Henderson said. "The strong commitment to academics and athletics makes this a special place, one that exemplifies the true spirit of the intercollegiate athletics and student-athlete experience."
"I am thrilled to have Ron joining our team and the Miner family," said S&T director of athletics Mark Mullin. "He brings an abundant amount of experience that will be of great value to our program. I know he is motivated and excited to get started. Ron will be an outstanding addition to our staff."
While at Hutchinson Community College, Henderson oversaw the budgets and staff for the grounds, maintenance, custodial and security staffs at the five campus sites in the HCC system. In addition, he was directly involved in the hiring, training and supervision of positions in those areas at all five of the campuses.
Henderson has previously worked in athletics at both the collegiate and professional levels, most recently when he spent four years as operations manager for the Springfield Cardinals. In that role, he directed the core aspects of the St. Louis Cardinals' Double A minor league affiliate as it began play in southwest Missouri in 2004.
The tasks he handled included the hiring and supervising of a team of over 70 employees, as well as planning and administering the team's annual budget and handling game day operations for the staff. He worked directly with the team's hosting of the Texas League All-Star Game during the 2008 season and played a key role in the team receiving the league's "Organization of the Year" award during all four years he spent with the franchise, an award based on overall operations and fan experiences.
Prior to his tenure with the Cardinals, Henderson was assistant athletics director at Missouri State University where he helped oversee the institution's 21-sport program for nine years. Henderson's duties at MSU included the hiring, training and supervision of the event staff workers, generation of the sport budgets for the director of athletics and as the primary point of contact for post-season events hosted by Missouri State.
Among his achievements at MSU was serving as the point person for the opening event at Hammons Field, launching the stadium opening with an over-capacity crowd with zero incidents.
With Moore's retirement, Debbie Hickey, the NCAA compliance and fiscal administrator in the S&T athletics office, will serve as senior woman administrator.
