The City of Rolla Fire and Rescue unveiled a new online system on Tuesday, July 9, where residents can easily obtain a burn permit.
"We are excited," said Assistant Fire Chief Ron Smith. "It is a neat, free and easy feature to use."
In the past, anytime a resident has wanted to burn leaves, vegetation or small brush, it has required them to either call the fire department or stop by the office in person.
Now all of that an occur with a few clicks of the computer mouse.
The page is linked to the City of Rolla's website in the right hand corner and is also connected to the fire
department's Facebook page or by visiting this link: http://www.burningpermit.com/moRolla/
Smith related that this new online system is nice because it sends an email to the fire station telling them where fire permits have been issued for that day and it informs dispatch as to who is permitted to burn.
The burning permit link will work only on days when the City of Rolla is allowing burning. It also will turn off at 5 p.m. each evening.
As of Thursday, Smith told the Daily News that around 10 permits had been issued via the new system so far.
