Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin replacing the Gasconade River bridge on Route D in Phelps County near Jerome Tuesday, July 9.
The bridge will be completely closed during the work. Detours will be in place. The bridge is scheduled to reopen in mid-August before Newburg school begins holding fall classes.
“The project involves not only replacing the bridge, but realigning a small portion of the roadway. This project will improve the safety of the crossing and the roadway,” said MoDOT resident engineer Dennis Krenning.
J.C. Industries, Inc., of Jefferson City, was awarded the bid for the project in the amount of $397,778.
During the closure, MoDOT is suggesting travelers use Route 28 and Interstate 44 around the bridge. The detour length is about 28 miles.
