  • This coming week will mark the 78th year for the Rolla Lions Club annual Fourth of July celebration.
The event will be Wednesday, July 3, through Saturday, July 6, at the Lions Club Park in Rolla.
As always the carnival will be complete with fun rides and games. Sixty-four-year-old Peter Schmidt, a Rolla Lions Club member, has worked the carnival for more than 20 years now.
While he says that the setup for the carnival is a drag, proceeds from the event all go to a good cause — Rolla Lions Club service projects.
Parking and admission to the carnival are free, but games, rides and food will cost.
Schmidt said that he will be running the bingo stand once again this year. The event relies on the help of all Lions Club members as well as a team of volunteers.
The carnival's ticket booths and food stands open at 6 p.m. each night. Rides start and 6:30 p.m. and games begin at 7 p.m.
Wristbands will be available for $20, which will allow carnival-goers the opportunity to ride on any ride. Wristbands will cost $15 Saturday, July 6, for matinee hours from 12:30-4 p.m.
State of the art fireworks will be displayed Thursday, July 4, and Saturday, July 6, at 11 p.m.
Finally, a raffle will occur for various prizes each day of the carnival with a nightly drawing at 10 p.m.
This year's grand prize drawing will be for a 2013 Dodge Rally Redline Challenger and will occur at midnight Saturday, July 6.
Tickets for the raffle are $1 each or 6 for $5.
