  • Some newborn kittens have survived a close brush with a trash compactor thanks to an alert sanitation worker in southeast Missouri.

KFVS-TV reports the Hornersville city employee put a bag in a trash truck Wednesday morning and was just about to start the compactor when he heard crying. The man retrieved the bag, looked inside and found three kittens, just a day or two old.

One of the kittens had bite wounds and other injuries. All three were placed with a foster parent for now.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call law enforcement or the Caruthersville Humane Society.
