  • They come from as far as Cuba and Lenox with their cars and pickups full of perennials, fresh baked bread and eggs. Their destination — downtown Rolla for the weekly farmers market.
    This year will mark Rani Abston's eighth year vending her goods at the market. Her snack trailer is among a dozen or so sellers who arrive each Tuesday morning. She loves the fresh veggies among other things.
    "There is a lot of wisdom all around me here," she said in regards to the veteran growers. "These farmers have been there and done as it relates to their gardens and farms."
    Debbie Miller from Rolla has been a regular at the market over the years. She enjoys the fresh vegetables when they start coming in.
    "I enjoy buying it from the locals rather than from the grocery store," she said.
    The Rolla Farmers Market is just one stop among several for farmers Mike and Jacque Bottom. They sell, among other things, their organic tomatoes and cucumbers at the Route 66 market on Fridays and the St. James market on Saturdays.
    Don Good of Goodlands Best not only brought his fresh eggs but his great-granddaughters Decemember and Novemember with him for the first time this season.
    "We like seeing all the stuff," the two girls said with a smile. The downtown market will run through October.
