  • Throughout his life, Kent Bagnall has had a passion for two things. One is art and the other is Route 66. Those two interests have come together recently in the form of a life-size mural on the side of his jewelry store at 10th and Pine streets.
“All my life I have lived within about one mile of Route 66, whether that has been in St. Louis, Rolla or Springfield, Mo.,” said Bagnall. “I am not sure if I’ve been following Route 66 or it’s been following me.”
The man behind the mural is longtime Cape Girardeau artist Craig Thomas.
“I have always liked Route 66 as well,” he said. “Many years ago I biked from Chicago to St. Louis traveling on old Route 66 throughout Illinois.”
Thomas began painting Thursday, June 13, and expects to finish up by the end of this week.
