Harlan Wayne Rice, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Holder Rice, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 15, 2013. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in Grace United Methodist Church, 1601 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard at 11:00 am. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, June 17, 2013 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Harland was born September 19, 1923 in Wesco, Missouri, the son of the late Claude Rice and Anna Zieman Rice. He was a retired chemist with the University of Missouri, Materials Research and Space Science Center. Harlan served in the US Navy as a machinist mate during WWII and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years of Charleston, SC; three daughters, Susan Rice, Sandy Rice and Sharon Hollar (Herbert) all of Charleston, SC, two grandchildren, Dr. Adam Cassell and Kathryn Hovis and many nieces and nephews.
