  • A Doolittle man who threatened to kill Phelps County sheriff’s deputies was taken into custody Thursday after fleeing into the woods Tuesday night.
Larry William Stump, 57, was arrested Thursday, June 13,  around 2:28 p.m. at a business located in the 200 block of Schofer Street in Doolittle and taken into custody without incident. His bond was set at $250,000.
According to arrest warrants issued Wednesday, June 12, for Stump in the 25th Circuit Court, he faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, assault or attempted assault in the second degree of a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, deputies were dispatched to the 17000 block of County Road 8260 for a report of shots fired around 8:47 p.m. Tuesday, June 11.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with Stump, who pointed a handgun at deputies and threatened to kill them if they did not get off his property.
Stump then fled into a wooded area, eluding law enforcement authorities.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
Law enforcement and emergency medical services personnel from the Rolla Police Department S.W.A.T., Missouri State Highway Patrol, Phelps County Ambulance and firefighters with the City of Rolla Fire and Rescue assisted with the sheriff’s department during the incident.
“The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department is grateful to have such great team work in a somewhat rural county,” the press release stated.
