  • More than 150 people attended this year’s Justice is Served breakfast, a fundraiser that supports the volunteer services for children in the foster program.
The annual event is hosted by the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of South Central Missouri.
25th Circuit Associate Judge Doug Gaston, of Houston, Mo., was the keynote speaker. He spoke about the success of the CASA program and encouraged the crowd to continue their support of the program.
Several judges from the 25th Judicial Circuit, including 25th Circuit Judges Ron White, Bill Hickle, Appellate Judge Mary Sheffield, Ronda Cortesini, John Wiggins, Greg Warren, Ken Clayton and Colin Long, served breakfast at the event.
When a child is assigned a CASA volunteer by a judge, that child receives individualized attention from that volunteer. A CASA volunteer may be found reading to a child, attending a T-ball game or simply listening to that child’s dreams.
It was noted that while a child in the program may be moved from one home to another and from one case worker to another, the CASA volunteer stays with the child until a permanent home is found.
CASA volunteers receive intensive orientation and training which is ongoing though out the year.
For donations or more information contact the CASA office at 573-458-6240, visit www.casascmo.org or email casaphel@fidnet.com.
