  • American Idol is looking to replace the judges' panel with former contestants, according to a new report by Vulture.
Although both Fox and the companies that produce Idol have yet to comment on next season, sources tell Vulture that Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson have both been approached, and that Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken are on the shortlist as well.
Why American Idol champ never quit: I couldn't stay away
"I'd like to see a past American Idol contestant [be a judge]," Season 12's Angie Miller, who finished in third, told TVGuide.com on Tuesday. "They really understand what this process is really like and what you do during the week. [It should be] someone who gets it."
Earlier this month, The Wrap reported that all four Season 12 judges - Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban - and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe would be dropped. So far, only Jackson has confirmed his departure. In a conference call with reporters last week, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly did not comment on the other three judges' statuses for Season 13, but said it was likely that Idol would return to a three-judge panel and that "everything at this point is on the table."
