  • After a Rolla Junior High School student died suddenly late last year, his fellow students in the Student 2 Student program are helping to fulfill his dream.
On Dec. 26, 2012, Dylan Schulte, a ninth-grade student, passed away. Schulte joined S2S as an eighth-grader and was a newcomer to Rolla.
Before his passing, Schulte expressed on several occasions that he wanted S2S to start a clothes closet for boys at the Russell House.
Having stayed there when he first came to Rolla, Schulte knew that there was a need, and he wanted to find a way to make the lives of boys who stayed there a little bit easier.
Recently, S2S at Rolla Junior High made Schulte’s dream a reality.
They hosted the Dylan Schulte Memorial Bowl at Coachlite Lanes in Rolla on April 6. Forty students and teachers came out for the event and raised more than $300 for the Russell House.
Two ninth-grade S2S members, Tyler Dodd and Nathan Nordwald, designed and built a footlocker to house some of the clothes.
S2S then sponsored Operation Footlocker April 15-19 with the hope of filling the footlocker with boys’ pajamas, underwear and socks.  They collected more than 300 items to stock the footlocker along with 75 donations of shirts and sweatshirts of all sizes.
S2S then made the presentation of the check and footlocker to the Russell House. Dylan’s Closet has been established in memory of Schulte, who will always be remembered for his contributions to Rolla Junior High.
