  • Police on college campuses would gain state authority to write traffic tickets under legislation sent to Gov. Jay Nixon.

The Legislature gave final approval Thursday to a bill, HB307, that would allow the governing board of any public college or university to impose traffic regulations on roads owned or maintained by the institution. The schools could post speed limits and other traffic control signals.

Traffic tickets written by campus police would be treated the same as those issued by cities, with fines ranging from $5 to $500 and the potential for up to a year in jail.
