  • If Josh Ledbetter fills out like his dad, he could be quite a find for the Austin Peay University men's basketball team.
Ledbetter, formerly of Rolla, is a 6-6 frontcourt player who will walk on at Austin Peay, a NCAA Division I program from Clarksville, Tenn.
Ledbetter is the son of Jeff Ledbetter, of Rolla, and Lisa Cannon, who recently moved to Clarksville with her husband, Kirby, who was recently named Austin Peay football head coach.
The past three seasons Josh Ledbetter has played for the Shepherd (Mich.) High School squad. Prior to that he played junior high basketball in Rolla.
As a senior in 2012-13 Ledbetter averaged 14.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks for Shepherd High School. He was selected to the Tri-Valley All-Conference team and was an honorable mention all-state selection.
Ledbetter had six 20-point games as a senior in high school and also played for the Central Michigan All-Star AAU squad in the summer of 2011.
According to Jeff, Josh weighs in around 205 now and there is great size potential. His dad believes he's still going to add an inch or two in height. And, if he's like Jeff, he's going to added about 30 or 40 pounds of muscle to his frame before he's done.
"Josh is a guy who had an outstanding high school career, in particular, his senior season," said Austin Peay men's basketball coach Dave Loos. "Fundamentally he is very sound, he has a feel for the game and knows how to play. He also shoots it well with good rotation.
"I think what he will have to do here is get in the weight room and improve his core strength, make the adjustment from high school to college basketball, especially the Division I level. We look forward to having him in our program and working with him. We will see how it goes as far as red-shirting him or not."
