Donald Leroy Chaney, of Rolla, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the age of 75.
He was born in Yancy Mills, MO on February 27, 1938 to the late Donald D. and Lois C. (Phelps) Chaney.
On December 16, 1961 he married Betty J. Ragan, who survives.
Mr. Chaney was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1957-1961.
He retired from the U.S. Geological Survey in Rolla. He was an avid Bowler, a volunteer for Special Olympics for twenty years, and member of local VFW Post 2025 through which he continued serving veterans as a bugler at hundreds of veteran’s burials.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Chaney.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife, Betty Chaney, of the home; his son, Rodney Chaney and his wife Christina, of Rolla; one brother, James Chaney, of Camdenton, MO; four grandchildren, Thomas Chaney, Kyle Chaney, Yoshi Chaney, and Brishia Jones and husband Derrick; one great granddaughter, Alayna Jones; nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many dear friends.
A funeral service for Don Chaney will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Lake Spring Cemetery in Lake Spring, MO. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 10th at the funeral home.
