  • Treasurer reports drop in gas tax revenue for April

  • Gas tax revenue that Phelps County received in April through its County Aid Road Trust (CART) fund distributions is down compared to April of 2012.
    According to a financial report prepared by County Treasurer Carol Green that was given to Phelps County Commissioners Thursday, gas tax revenue received last month, which amounted to $44,591.92, is down compared to the amount received in April of last year, which was $47,205.73, a negative difference of about 5.54 percent.
    In March, the county received $48,869.69 in gas tax revenue, which was up compared to the amount received in March of last year — $48,514.91 — an increase of about 0.73 percent.
    Gas tax revenue received in February 2013, which totaled $50,363.70, was down compared to the amount received in February 2012, which was $52,197.19, a negative difference of about 3.51 percent.
    The county’s share of gas tax revenue in January of this year was $50,670.90, which was up from the total of $50,558.22 received in January 2012, a positive difference of 0.22 percent.
    In addition to the gas tax revenue, the county receives distributions from two other tax funds administrated by the state — motor vehicle sales and motor vehicle fees.
    Motor vehicle sales tax revenue increased to $13,518.22 in April 2013 from $13,101.86 in April 2012, an increase of about 3.18 percent.
    The county received $9,124.49 in vehicle sales tax revenue in March of this year compared to $9,750.46 in March 2012, a negative difference of about 6.42 percent.
    Revenue from motor vehicle sales taxes received in February 2013 increased to $8,972.35 from $8,844.13 in February 2012, a positive difference of about 1.45 percent.
    Motor vehicle sales tax revenue also went up to $10,229.08 in January 2013 from $9,211.13 in January of last year, a positive difference of about 11.05 percent.
    Revenue from motor vehicle fees went up to $9,944.74 last month from $8,801.48 in April 2012, an increase of 12.99 percent.
    The county received $5,045.23 in revenue from motor vehicle fees in March 2013 compared to $7,004.51 received in March of last year, a negative difference of approximately 27.97 percent.
    Motor vehicle fees revenue received by the county decreased to $5,533.22 received in February 2013 from $6,612.30 received in February 2012, a negative difference of about 16.32 percent.
    Revenue from motor vehicle fees increased to $8,523.02 received in January 2013 from $5,941.54 received in January 2012, a positive difference of approximately 43.45 percent.
    Year to date, the county has received a total of $194,496.21 in gas tax revenue, $41,844.14 in motor vehicle sales tax revenue and $29,046.21 in motor vehicle fees revenue.
