  • Newburg second in both boys and girls team standings at district.

  • The Newburg High School track team will be sending a large group to the Missouri Class 1 Section 2 Meet on Saturday after a standout performance in the Missouri Class 1 District 4 Meet Monday at Skyline High School.
    The district meet had been scheduled for last Saturday but was moved to Monday due to the weather.
    Both the Newburg High boys' and girls' track squads placed second in the district event behind Humansville. In the girls' meet Humansville had 108 points to win while Newburg was runner-up with 91. In the boys' meet Humansville had 164 points to win while the Wolves were second with 140.
    The top four finishers in each event move on from district to the sectional meet, to be held Saturday at Fair Grove. The top four finishers from sectionals advance to the Missouri Class 1 State Championships in Jefferson City.
    Newburg will be competing at sectionals in 10 girls' events and 15 boys' events.
    Newburg captured four events in the girls' district meet and four events in the boys.
    Girls
    For the Lady Wolves placing first for Newburg were Renate Richardson in the high jump at 4-4, the 100-meter hurdles at :18.0 and the 300-meter hurdles at :51.6, and the 4x200-meter relay team of Jordan Baumgardner, Annalea Breedlove, Richardson and Amelia Schmidt at 1:56.9.
    Placing second for the Newburg girls was Breedlove in the 400-meter dash at 1:03.6. Newburg third places came from Breedlove in the long jump at 15-0 3/4 and the 4x400-meter relay team of Breedlove, Miranda Cardin, Schmidt and Sonya Wann at 5:00.4. Lady Wolf fourth places were by Schmidt in the discus at 79-6; Baumgardner in the 100-meter dash at :13.6, and Wann in the 1,600-meter run at 6:46.
    Boys
    First-place performances for the Newburg boys were by Austin Thompson in both the 110-meter hurdles at :16.8 and the 300-meter hurdles at :43.6; Trevor Constable in the high jump at 5-8, and Kylon Bales in the pole vault at 12-9.
    Newburg second places were by Constable in both the triple jump at 36-5 1/2 and the 110-meter hurdles at :17.7 and the 4x200-meter relay team of Evis Elbert, Thompson, Dylan Sickler and Jamie Stevenson at 1:42. Wolf third places were by Sickler in the triple jump at 35-11 1/4; Stevenson in the 100-meter dash at :11.9, and Stevenson in the 200-meter dash at :25.3. Newburg fourth places came from Sickler in the pole vault at 8-0; Aaron Crisp in the discus at 104-6; Nick Strawhun in the 400-meter dash at 1:01; the 4x100-meter relay team of Elbert, Dakota DeShurley, Sickler and Stevenson at :49.4, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Strawhun, Thompson, Bales and Hunter Rigsby at 4:05.3.
