In a matchup of state-ranked opponents, the Jefferson City Lady Jays got a goal in overtime to down the Rolla High School girls' soccer squad 3-2 Wednesday on Kiwanis Field at the Bray Sports Complex.
Rolla, ranked No. 7 in the Missouri Class 2 state poll, falls to 15-4. Jefferson City, ranked No. 8 in Class 3, improves to 14-3-1.
It was Senior Night for the Lady Bulldogs.
Jefferson City opened the scoring 16 minutes into the game when Natalie Vance scored.
Junior Nicole Howard tied the game for RHS one minute later on an assist from junior Amy Jernigan, and it was 1-1 at halftime.
Howard scored again to give Rolla a 2-1 edge 10 minutes into the second half off a long throw from freshman Caroline Victor.
However, the Lady Jays' Sarah Luebbert again tied the score with four minutes remaining in regulation, forcing overtime.
Eden Hoagenweld scored the game-winner 56 seconds into the first extra period.
"Jefferson City is a strong team," said RHS head coach Mike Howard. "They have wins against (Springfield) Glendale, Camdenton, Helias and Rock Bridge to name a few. It's a tough result because we were four minutes away from a win, but I thought we played really well.
"Hopefully we figured some things out with our lineup. I think there are a lot of positives we can take away from this game."
Rolla's junior varsity team finished the season by falling to Jefferson City 3-0. The Rolla jayvee squad ends at 3-7-4.
Rolla is the top seed for next week's Class 2 District 10 Tournament, to be held on Kiwanis Field. Rolla meets fourth-seeded Marshfield at 4 p.m. Tuesday in district semifinal action, with second-seeded Helias playing third-seeded Bolivar at 5:45 p.m. in the other semifinal contest.
The district title game is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday.
