  • County sales tax receipts up in May

  • After being down for the last two months, Phelps County’s sales tax deposits are up this May compared to the same time in 2012, according to the latest figures provided by County Treasurer Carol Green, who presented them to county commissioners at their meeting Tuesday night.

  • After being down for the last two months, Phelps County’s sales tax deposits are up this May compared to the same time in 2012, according to the latest figures provided by County Treasurer Carol Green, who presented them to county commissioners at their meeting Tuesday night.
    The county’s sales tax deposit this month is up by 27.88 percent compared to May 2012.
    Last month, the county’s receipts from sales tax was down by 7.19 percent compared to April 2012. Sales tax receipts in March also were down by 12.86 percent compared to March of last year.
    The county’s deposit in February of this year was up by 24.14 percent compared to February of 2012 and January’s deposit was down by 16.61 percent compared to January 2012.
    It was noted that when comparing the months from 2012 and 2013, the reduction for TIF (tax increment financing) payments to the City of Rolla for Kohl’s had not started until May of 2012.
    This year so far, county sales tax is down compared to last year by 1.96 percent, and when comparing the time frame from June 2012 to May 2013 and June 2011 to May 2012, known as a rolling 12-month change, the rate is up by 0.07 percent.
