Although the Rolla High School boys' golf team failed to advance as a team, a pair of Bulldog players have moved on to state tournament action through the Missouri Class 4 Section 3 Meet, held Monday at Eagle Knoll Golf Course.
Senior Michael Steelman and junior Jake Drewniak are the Rolla High golfers who qualified for the state meet Monday.
The top two teams, plus the other top 12 individual scores and ties, advanced from the sectional meet to the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament, to be held at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield on May 13-14.
As a team the Bulldogs finished third behind state-qualifiers Columbia Rock Bridge and Ozark Conference rival Springfield Kickapoo.
Rock Bridge won with 319 while Kickapoo was runner-up with 328, Rolla third with 335, Springfield Glendale fourth with 343 and Joplin fifth with 347.
Glendale's Baron Weaver won medalist honors, shooting three-over-par 75 – one stroke better than Rock Bridge's Matt Echelmeier.
Steelman tied for fourth place with three other golfers at 78 while Drewniak tied for 12th at 82.
Also for Rolla, Mark Martin was 22nd at 85, Ben Burris tied for 33rd at 90 and Justin Isaacson tied for 42nd with 99.
