  • RHS baseball tops Tigers, 11-1

  • A day after being on the short end of the mercy rule, the Rolla High School baseball squad enjoyed the positive side of it Tuesday.
    The Bulldogs bounced back from an 11-1 non-league road loss to Columbia Hickman on Monday by knocking off Phelps County rival St. James 11-1 Tuesday at Nelson Hart Park.
    The win improved Rolla's overall record to 9-11. The St. James Tigers fall to 6-14.
    Rolla got started early on Tuesday, plating four runs in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from junior Seth Stevens.
    The Bulldogs added one run in each of the second and fourth innings, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
    The game was stopped after six innings due to the mercy rule.
    St. James' lone run came in the second, when Jesse Hays singled and later scored on an RBI single from Troy Parker.
    Rolla outhit St. James 14-7.
    Sophomore Andy Satulla went 4-for-4 and scored four runs for the Bulldog hitting attack.
    Also for RHS Stevens was 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI and two runs scored; sophomore Collin Nash and senior David Roberts each had two hits and an RBI; senior Hayden Nielsen and junior Bryan Peach each had a hit and RBI, and senior Michael Pickrell had a hit and two runs scored.
    Roberts belted a home run for the lone RHS run on Monday against Hickman.
    Hays and Parker each had two hits for the Tigers.
    Junior Tristin Brown went the distance to gain the victory on the mound for Rolla, scattering seven hits and no walks while fanning three.
    Senior Jake Ford was the starting and losing pitcher for St. James. He was relieved by Brenn Bartz and later Jake Gleason.
    Rolla is slated to play at Springfield Parkview on Thursday in Ozark Conference action, starting at 4:30 p.m. St. James is scheduled to play at Steelville today in non-league play, starting at 4:30 p.m.
