With flood warnings out and rain falling in Newburg, nothing could dampen the spirits of Newburg High School's Tri-M Honor Choral Group, as their spring project came to an end on April 18.
The Community Partnership Resale Shop truck backed up to the choir room door, and students, under the direction of Dr. Chris Jessen, began moving box after box of clothing, toys and household items. Furniture and lamps and many other items that had been collected by students over the past couple of months were loaded on to the truck, as students laughed and worked together.
"We were contacted by Dr. Jessen earlier this spring, and he told us that the students were going to be collecting items for the Resale Shop," explained Partnership development director, Mark Long. "We were excited to be offered these donations. To see young people work together on a project like this is wonderful. We're so proud of the Newburg High School students."
"This has been a very good exercise for my high school students," said Jessen, who serves as Newburg High School's Tri-M Honor Choral Director. "They have benefited from the experience of helping those less fortunate than themselves."
Proceeds from the sales of items at the shop go right back into the programming at The Community Partnership, including the Young Parents Program, Capable Kids and Families, Early Care and Education, Independent Living Program and Fit Helps. The Community Partnership Resale Shop is located on N. Bishop, in back of Big O Tires and in front of Kohl's. Donations are accepted at the shop Monday - Saturday.
Donation boxes are also located in the parking lot of the building, at Forum Dental, and at the Rolla Recycling Center. The Resale Shop also offer pick-up service for furniture and larger donations. You can schedule a pick-up by calling 573-426-5923.
