  • S&T track hosts ninth Allgood Invitational

  • A win and provisional qualifier for Miner men, a victory and school record for women.

  • Missouri S&T's men's track & field team had one winning performance and one NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark Saturday to highlight a solid day of performances at the ninth annual Dewey Allgood Invitational at S&T's Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
    The Miners got a victory from its 4x100-meter relay team, as Adriel Hawkins rallied the Miners from behind in the anchor leg to edge Missouri Southern by 0.08 seconds in 41.48. Joseph Vellella recorded the provisional qualifying mark in the hammer throw as he finished second in the event with a mark of 180-9.
    S&T also got second place finishes from Mike Grinde in the pole vault as he cleared 15-7¼ and Jusean Archibald in the long jump with a mark of 22-9 as well as a third place finish from Trevor King in the high jump as he cleared six feet.
    Kyle Stocker also finished third in the 800-meters in 1:57.28, one spot ahead of teammate Brian Scherping who had a time of 1:57.89. S&T's 4x400-meter relay team also finished in third in 3:28.58 as did Trace Norfleet in the triple jump with a mark of 45-8.
    Hawkins took fourth on an individual basis in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.79 seconds and in the 200-meters in 21.51 seconds and fourth place finishes were also posted by Alec Hackett in the pole vault at 14-11½ and Norfleet in the long jump at 22-4½.
    Nathan Vandomelen came in fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.99 seconds along with Chris Marchman in the 5,000-meters in 16:33.33 and Piotr Gal in the javelin throw with a mark of 137-11.
    Vellella took sixth in the discus at 139-4, along with King in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.74 seconds and Marchman in the 1,500-meters in 4:08.32. Tim Sills finished seventh in the pole vault at 14-3 ½, one spot ahead of Ryan McGuire's mark of 13-11¾. Stephen Mull was seventh in the hammer throw at 134-8 as was Reece Berry in the shot put at 43-1, while Godson Onwubiko finished eighth in the discus with a mark of 134-7 and Mull did so in the shot at 40-7½.
    Lady Miners
    A first place finish and a school record highlighted the afternoon for Missouri S&T's women's track & field team as it competed Saturday on its home track in the ninth annual Dewey Allgood Invitational.
    The winning performance for the Lady Miners came from Alyson Smith in the 1,500-meters as she won in a time of 4:56.62, while the school record came from Christy Schmid in the hammer throw as she posted a mark of 136-6.
    The Lady Miners' team of Katlyn Meier, Rachel Lawal, Natalie Updyke and Mary Ann Bradshaw finished second in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:58.25 and Taylor Cipicchio also had a second place showing in the pole vault with a clearance of 11-5¼, while Molly Clement cleared the same height to finish third in the event based on misses.
    Page 2 of 3 - Bradshaw had a third place finish in the 200-meters with a time of 25.74 seconds and a fourth in the long jump at 18-1, while fourths were also recorded by Rachel Lawal in the 400-meters in one minute flat, Schmid in the hammer throw with her school record mark, Sydnee Schram in the javelin throw with a mark of 99-2 and Brenda Ellis in the 1,500-meters in 5:14.14.
    Samantha Wermager placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.31 seconds, while Updyke did likewise in the 800-meters in 2:19.74 and Rachel Ederle tied for fifth in the pole vault at 10-11½.
    Bradshaw added a sixth place effort in the 100-meters in 12.77 seconds as did Rachel Feist in the 1,500-meters in 5:24.01 and Sadye Wichmann in the triple jump with a leap of 36-2. Eighth place finishes came from Meier in the 100-meters in 12.83 seconds, Wichmann in the long jump at 17-0½.
    S&T will take part in the Illinois College Invitational next Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill.
