  • Missouri University of Science and Technology’s University and Chamber choirs will perform a broad selection of pieces at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at 10th and Main streets in Rolla.
The arts, languages and philosophy department at Missouri S&T presents the “Spring into Song” spring choir concert, conducted by Lorie Francis, a lecturer in the arts, languages and philosophy department at S&T.
The concert will have two portions. The first is comprised of standard choral literature, with “Mouth Music” by Dolores Keane and John Faulkner being the standout piece. It is a traditional Celtic-style song that is meant for dancing.
The singers imitate instruments through lilting or port-a-beul (tunes from the mouth). “Salmo 150” by Ernani Aguiar and “Rise Up, My Love” by John Leavitt are the other pieces that will be performed under this theme.
The second portion of the concert is styled like a show choir performance and will feature the piece “Africa” by David Paich and Jeff Porcaro, arranged by Roger Emerson.
“Home” by Greg Holden and Drew Pearson, “Trickle, Trickle” by Clarence Bassett, arranged by Steve Zegree and “Dancin’ in the Street” by Marvin Gaye, arranged by Kirby Shaw will round out the performance.
The choreographers for the concert are Colin Woolums, a freshman in petroleum engineering from Hinsdale, Ill., and Caleb Hasan, a freshman in electrical engineering from Hanover Park, Ill. The accompanist is Jerrad Kaiser, a junior in mechanical engineering from Troy, Mo.
Tickets are $5 for the public and free for S&T students and youth age 18 and younger. Tickets are available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before the performance from the Leach Theatre Box Office, located in the vestibule inside the main entrance to Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, facing 10th Street, or by calling the box office at 573-341-4219.
