Dorothy A. Francis passed peacefully from this life the morning of March 20, 2013 in Ft. Myers, Fla. after a gradual decline in health.
She was born on May 31, 1924 in Providence, RI to Alfred Levander and Alice Stromberg. After graduating from school she was honored to serve her country during WWII as a Navy Yeoman 1st class. Dorothy married Cecil Francis in 1953 in Sylvania, Ohio. They resided in Trenton, Mich. until retiring to Rolla in 1984. They were happily married for 48 years.
Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was proud to serve as both local and District President for the United Methodist Women. She was also instrumental in starting the Praying Pearlers at the church. Her love of quilting leads her to hold office in the Missouri State Quilters Guild and she received many awards for her beautiful quilts.
She is survived by Anne Warren (daughter) of Ft. Myers, Fla., Cecile Francis (daughter) Rolla, Mo, Jerry Francis (son) of Ft. Myers, Fla., Jamie and Joshua Warren (grandchildren) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Alexis and Justis Warren (great-grandchildren) of Port St Lucie, Fla., Her beloved cat Max, numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family members and dear friends.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday May 4, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Rolla, Mo with the Reverend Timothy Lee officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
