Off-night and still a shutout victory.
To have an off-night and still post a shutout victory is the mark of a good team.
And that's where the Rolla High School girls' soccer team found itself Tuesday night.
Lady Bulldog head coach Mike Howard said there was a slight emotional drop-off on Tuesday for RHS following Friday's impressive shutout victory over highly-regarded Union. However, Rolla still had enough to blast Ozark Conference foe Springfield Hillcrest 6-0 on Kiwanis Field at the Bray Sports Complex.
Rolla improves to 9-1 overall and 4-0 in the league.
The outcome was never in doubt, as junior forward Nicole Howard earned the hat trick with three goals. Junior Amy Jernigan, freshman Emma Laney and freshman Marissa Hill had the other Lady Bulldog goals.
Howard, Laney, sophomore London Clift, junior Aysen Malone and senior Mikaela Insall had assists.
Freshman keeper Katie Hudson recorded her sixth shutout – all coming in the last seven games.
"We had a little bit of a letdown after the Union game," Mike Hoard said. "But this game gave us an opportunity to rest some people who are injured and sore. We have a tough weekend coming up with the Hazelwood schools."
The junior varsity game ended in a scoreless tie. Sam Turner was in goal for the RHS jayvee squad, now 2-3-1.
Rolla is scheduled to play a couple of non-league games in St. Louis over the weekend, facing Hazelwood West at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and Hazelwood Central at noon on Saturday.
