Several months ago, Rolla Community Garden vice president Rhonda Myers spoke to the owner of a tractor dealership about possibly plowing the RCG. Due to liability issues, it wasn't possible for the dealership to be involved.
"As I walked out of the store, disappointed," explained Myers, "a gentleman who had overheard the conversation followed me outside, and stopped me in the parking lot.
He volunteered, at no cost to RCG, to come and plow as soon as the weather broke."
This past Saturday afternoon, Larry Usery donated several hours of his time, using his own gasoline to plow the Rolla Community Garden.
"We appreciate Larry's willingness to step in and help. This is going to help improve our soil, and get us ready for a great growing season."
The official kick-off celebration for the Rolla Community Garden will be held April 20 at 10 a.m. 10x15' plots are available for lease for $10 at the garden, located in back of the Rolla Recycling Center on McCutchen Drive.
"If you don't have access to an area to garden at home, consider becoming a part of the RCG," encouraged Myers.
"If you can't afford the $10 refundable leasing fee, we have scholarships available. You don't have to know anything about gardening. We have mentors who can help."
